7th Grade
Pirates & Aggies |
I lived in Michigan and Ohio before going to college at Carleton College in Minnesota and then the University of Wisconsin, where I graduated with a degree in Dance Performance and Choreography. After working with young people as a gymnastics coach and assistant Montessori teacher, I decided to go back to graduate school at NCCU to get a degree in school counseling. I worked as an elementary school counselor for seven years before becoming the 7th grade counselor at Brogden. I’m super excited to work with middle schoolers!
My husband and I have two grown boys, ages 21 and 23. They are awesome and currently live in Durham. I am a certified yoga instructor and am pursuing certification to become a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction teacher. I enjoy working out, eating good food, and spending time with my family and six cats. I look forward to working with the students, families and staff at Brogden Middle School! |
MEET MS. Alston
I am a true Durhamite, born and raised right here in Durham, NC. This is my 8th year as a school social worker for Brogden. I attended East Carolina University where I majored in Social Work with a concentration in medical social work. I worked for the Dept. of Social Services and the North Carolina Division of Vocational Rehabilitation as a Rehabilitation Counselor for the school population. I quickly realized my desire to work with children and families In the school setting. Therefore I returned to school and became a license
school social worker for North Carolina. I serve as the liaison between home and school, and advocate for families needing various supports by connecting them to community resources. I am looking forward to academic stability for our students as well as professional stability for our staff. |
